Abstract
This study examined the meditating effects of stress-coping behavior on the relationship between the paternal and maternal autonomic-control attitude and children`s psychological well-being. Survey data from 489 children in the 5th and 6th grades in elementary schools were harvested for analysis. To examine possible mediating effects, Baron and Kenny`s(1986) model was applied together with the SPSS 22.0. Sobel`s(1982) test was used to verify the significance of the mediation effects. The study revealed the following results. First, perceived parent`s autonomic-control attitude showed a significantly positive correlation to that of psychological well-being. Perceived paternal autonomic-control attitude showed a significantly correlation with stress-coping behaviors (active, aggressive), and perceived maternal autonomic-control attitude showed a significantly correlation to the stress-coping behaviors (active, aggressive, social support). Stress coping behaviors showed a significant correlation to psychological well-being. Second, the children`s stress coping behaviors(active, aggressive) exerted a partial mediating role on the perceived paternal autonomic-control attitude and psychological well-being, and children`s stress coping behaviors (active, aggressive, social support) had a partial mediating role on the perceived maternal autonomic-control attitude and psychological well-being. This study confirmed the difference of paternal and maternal influences on stress-coping behavior, and the importance of internal variables such as stress-coping behaviors, in order to improve children`s psychological well-being in psychotherapy.
